LOS ANGELES » CALICO » LAS VEGAS (277 mi / 446 km)
Depart the metropolis of Los Angeles and cross the San Gabriel mountain rage past San Bernardino before heading into the Mojave Desert. Stop in Barstow for lunch or shopping at the numerous outlet malls lining the freeway. If time allows, make a stop in Calico Ghost town, once a booming silver town where whiskey was cheaper than water. Pass Baker, a hot desert community known for its tall thermometer, before arriving in Las Vegas, the glittering city of Lady Luck.
Day
3
LAS VEGAS
This is a day at leisure. Las Vegas is a city that never sleeps. The “Strip” will mesmerize you with its dazzling lights, casino action and opulent hotels with their lavish shows and headline performers. Try your hand with “Lady Luck” or see one of the famous shows. Take the time to visit the well known resorts with their individual themes and a myriad of attractions or just relax poolside.
Day
4
LAS VEGAS » ZION NATIONAL PARK / KANAB (199 mi / 318 km)
Leave the glittering, bustling metropolis behind and head into some quiet, magnificent works of nature. On the way, take a short detour and visit Nevada’s oldest State Park, Valley of Fire. The rough floor and jagged walls of the park contain brilliant formations of eroded sandstone and sand dunes that often appear to be on fire when reflecting the sun's rays. Continue on to Zion National Park, a monument of time carved by wind and water and well known for geological features with names like The Three Patriarchs, Bridge Mountain, White Throne and the hidden Temple of Sinawava. Continue to Kanab, known as “Little Hollywood” in Utah due to the many Hollywood westerns filmed in the surrounding Red Rock area
Day
5
ZION NATIONAL PARK / KANAB » GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK (252 mi / 405 km)
Depart Kanab and head for the magnificent Grand Canyon National Park. Take a break in the Page and visit the massive man-made Lake Powell. Learn about life in the early days of the canyon and the building of this remarkable engineering wonder at the Carl Hayden Visitor Center. Afterwards, continue through the Navajo Indian Reservation to Cameron and on to the Grand Canyon, a powerful and inspiring landscape that overwhelms our senses through its immense size. Encounter a world of multi-colored hues reflected on the mile deep walls created by the eroding forces of the Colorado River. At sunset, be sure to see the fantastic, ever changing panorama of rock formations from Hopi point.
Day
6
GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK » ROUTE 66 / SELIGMAN » LAUGHLIN (222 mi / 357 km)
Sunrise is the perfect time to view the spectacular interplay of color, shadow and light in the horizontal strata of the Grand Canyon. After revelling in the beauty of the canyon, depart south via Williams and continue west to Seligman. This was once a bustling town on America’s “Mother Road” Route 66 and prides itself as one of the last original outposts of the highway. The stretch from here to Kingman is the longest remaining portion of the historic road. Kingman has a number of unique roadside motels which stand as architectural monuments to a long lost era of travel. Stay in Laughlin along the banks of the Colorado River.
Day
7
